Miteco submits the Measurement Programs of the second cycle of the Marine

The measurement programs of the marine strategies aim to encompass all those actions aimed at advancing towards the good environmental status of the marine environment and achieving environmental objectives. The first cycle measurement programs have been reviewed and updated, in collaboration with all the administrations responsible for them. To update the measurement programs, MITECO has had the collaboration of numerous administrations and agents involved, as those responsible for the actions that make up the program.

Mytec The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Montserrat Email List Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has put into public consultation the updating of the measurement programs of the second cycle of Spain's Marine Strategies. These programs of measures fall within the obligations of Law 41/2010, of December 29, on the protection of the marine environment, and the Framework Directive on Marine Strategy (Dir 2008/56/CE) which establish the obligation to member states of the European Union to develop strategies to achieve good marine environmental status. Thus, the strategies must follow a series of consecutive phases that must be reviewed and updated every six years.



The first cycle of marine strategies began with the publication of the first three phases: evaluation of the state of the marine environment, definition of Good Environmental Status (BEA) and environmental objectives, for each of the Spanish marine demarcations: North Atlantic, South Atlantic, Strait and Alborán, Levantine-Balearic and Canary Islands. The monitoring programs were subsequently published in 2014 and the programs of measures in 2015. The first cycle marine strategies, including their corresponding program of measures, were approved in 2018 by Royal Decree, following the provisions of article 15 of Law 41/2010, of December 29. In this way, in 2018, the first cycle closes.
