Journalism is in mourning, Jesús Mariñas dies at the age of 79 in Madrid . The chronicler had been diagnosed with bladder cancer half a year ago. Today social networks are filled with memories about the journalist, as well as support and affection for his friends, family and for the Venezuelan photographer Elio Valderrama, whom he married in 2016.
Jesús Mariñas worked in the press and radio Special Data since the 70s, and in the 90s he made the leap to television. His collaboration in "The Truth Machine" made the Galician nationally known and a regular on the sets of numerous gossip programs. An inseparable companion of María Teresa Campos , he worked on several of the journalist's projects on different television channels.
Campos was quick to express his pain over the loss of his friend; as well as Toñi Moreno, Sandra Barneda, Susanna Griso and Karmele Marchante, among other colleagues and television faces.
The Galician journalist had carried out his fight against cancer silently and discreetly; he had not made it public until the end of last year. Jesús Mariñas was admitted to Madrid's Ramón y Cajal University Hospital in March , where he died. His family has fulfilled his last wishes and the chronicler has been cremated in the strictest privacy.
The interesting life of the "father of the tabloid press" is collected in the book Jesús por Mariñas, memorias desde el corazón , an autobiography that was published in the summer of 2021.
