In this newly created role, he will work with government officials around the world to drive effective cybersecurity policy to enhance security while enabling continued digital transformation and innovation. Just last year, the Council of Economic Advisers reported that malicious cyber activity cost the U.S. economy between $100 million and $100 million annually. With a record number of new faces sworn into key offices on Capitol Hill last week, it's clear cybersecurity remains a top priority for lawmakers from both parties. New and returning members of Congress will continue to develop policies to help protect the web, promote good cyber hygiene and protect voter data.
The Government Affairs team advocates for cybersecurity solutions, programs Germany Email Database policies to promote best practices and enable organizations to protect their networks from persistent cyber threats. In 2019, our Government Affairs team worked with the Cyber Security Alliance to successfully add language to the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement that encourages countries to collaborate on cybersecurity challenges. Working with government officials to promote best practices in cyber hygiene and assessing cyber vulnerabilities and highlighting the need for federal states and local governments to provide additional cybersecurity funding. As we continue to build momentum in 2019, I am delighted today to announce that I have joined the Government Affairs team in the newly created role of Director, Global Government Affairs. From joining us as Director of Global Cyber Security Policy and Strategy. There, manage global cybersecurity issues and drive corporate participation in technology trade associations including Code Excellence, Software Assurance Forum and Sector Coordinating Council. He previously served on Capitol Hill as a professional staff member for the Research and Technology Subcommittee of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee. We will work with government officials around the world to promote cybersecurity policies that help strengthen security while enabling continued digital transformation and innovation. Policies that recognize critical importance can help businesses and governments gain a deeper understanding of their unique threat environments and enable them to adopt appropriate strategies to mitigate those risks.
