In conventional houses, 30% of the heat escapes through the roof. The roof plays a key role in the energy efficiency of a home. Using unsuitable materials or an installation system can cause poor ventilation, water leaks or the appearance of humidity inside. In a passive house these aspects are taken care of to the millimeter, while in traditional construction it is common, for example, to resort to the use of mortar to fix the tiles and save time. In this article we explain why this is a mistake and how to avoid it with a dry laying system that we have already used in our passivhaus projects , with excellent results. The covers in passive houses. The example of Sant Joan de les Abadesses The easiest way to explain this is with a practical case. Asthe passive houses that we are building in Sant Joan de les Abadessesin which, of course, we are being very careful with the top. The roof, in this case, has twice as much insulation as the façade so as not to lose interior temperature. And we have also used special tiles, with a new installation system for inclined roofs.

Double insulation covers in Passive Houses A sustainable and efficient roof The Sant Joan de les Abadesses project consists of two semi-detached single-family homes. For this project we needed to combine the traditional aesthetics of the inclined ceramic roof with the energy efficiency of a passive house , andTexas Vereahad the perfect solution for us. Not only did it offer us South Korea Phone Number List a wide variety of designs and colors in its catalogue, but, thanks to its placement system, we can offer all the quality guarantees of a passive house. Super resistant ceramic Among all the available finishes, we chose the 50×21 Jacobea curved tile model because it adapted to the aesthetics we were looking for and because: It is resistant to any weather conditions and has a durability 5 times greater than the minimum required by current regulations. It guarantees a surface without deformations to make the correct coupling of the pieces easier. It is made with high quality Galician clay and has several certifications in sustainable construction.

Roofs in Passive Houses tiles Facility As we said before, sometimes in the traditional construction system it is decided to fix the tiles with mortar. This saves a lot of time but is a mistake: it prevents the natural expansion of the tiles and can cause them to break with changes in temperature. This is how the dreaded leaks and humidity appear. The dry installation system guarantees total impermeability, allows air circulation and eliminates the problems of fixing with mortar. Installation is carried out in 3 steps: 1- Placement of thermal insulation . We use the same Thermochip panel as on the façade, but thicker (120 mm on the roof versus 100 mm on the façade). With this system we avoid the appearance of thermal bridges and guarantee continuous insulation. 2- Placement of corrugated bituminous plates . These plates form a second insulating and waterproofing barrier and are the base on which the tiles will be installed. 3- Installation of the tiles using metal hooks and polyurethane foam points. In this way, the ceramic remains well supported and is free to expand with increasing temperature without the risk of breaking.
